COLLECTIVE PROTECTION AND TERRITORIAL SUPPORT FOR INDIGENOUS, LAND, AND ENVIRONMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS
In our latest report and fanzine, PBI and the ALLIED Network share the results of a deep-dive investigation into how communities in Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, and the Amazonian tri-border region linking Peru, Brazil, and Colombia are standing up to injustice. This project seeks to consolidate current knowledge on collective protection and identify specific opportunities that will enable ILEDs in Latin America to strengthen their strategies in this area. To this end, a participatory assessment was carried out in Latin America aimed at understanding the context faced by ILEDs and the responses developed to address it. The aim was to assess the territorial presence and obtain first-hand information. This also includes three case studies in Colombia, Brazil, and Ecuador.

Sowing to resist. Security and integral protection methodologies for human rights defenders in Honduras, 2024 (Spanish only)
This protection booklet is the result of years of hard work in sharing the experiences, efforts and struggles of the people who day after day defend human rights in Honduras: without their stories and examples of non-violent resistance to the multiple attacks they suffer, without their unwavering commitment, this document would not have been possible. For this, and for all that they have taught us, we would like to thank them.

Wellbeing, Self-Care, and Integrated Security (WeSIS) Manual for Human Rights Defenders, 2023
Burmese Khmer
Tagalog English
Bahasa Indonesia
Across Southeast Asia, human rights defenders are fighting for their rights, often putting themselves in harm’s way and experiencing great personal cost in the name of what they believe in.
As activists, we can take for granted the toll that our work takes on our minds and bodies, as well as on our families and loved ones. We continue to put our causes and the needs of others before our own, all the while facing heightened risk on account not only of our activism, but also our identities. Too often, the cost becomes too great. We overwork, burn out, get sick or become disillusioned. Yet the efficacy of our movements depends on our own ability to fight and keep fighting for the change we want to see in the world. This manual is a response to the struggle facing too many women and LGBTIQ+ rights defenders, and a hope that together we can create space for solidarity and healing, movement-building and growth.

ADVOCACY GUIDE FOR THE PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS
(Only available in Spanish)
The possibilities for political lobbying for the protection of human rights defenders are many and we must take advantage of them and demand that each of them fulfill their political responsibilities. We hope that this guide will be useful in advancing guarantees for human rights defenders, so that they can fight without fear for their lives, their physical or emotional integrity or that of their loved ones.

Frontline Manual
The most effective security lessons come from defenders themselves - from their daily experiences and the tactics and strategies they develop over time in order to protect others and their own working environments. This manual must therefore be understood as a work in progress which will need to be updated and adapted as we gather more input from human rights defenders working on the front line. There are also lessons to be learned from international humanitarian NGOs, who have recently started to develop their own rules and procedures to maintain staff security. These manuals were written largely based on the work of PBI.

AI Guide to EU guidelines implementation
The Guidelines represent a unique commitment by EU institutions and individual EU member states to promote the principles in the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders in its relations with countries outside the EU. If fully implemented, the potential for bringing about change is significant. The fact that all member states have agreed to the Guidelines provides a strong basis for the EU to develop an effective human rights policy.
