Awards for PBI
December 2007 As a volunteer with PBI, Kevin's work accompanying human rights defenders in Papua is best summed up by one person he helped: "I am very happy with the accompaniment from PBI and so is my family. I feel supported and safer, and the people in Manokwari know that LP3BH (Legal Aid NGO) is not alone." (Yan Christian Warinussy, 2006 Winner of the John Humphrey Award)
December 2006 March 2001 The Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders (MEA) was created in 1993 and is granted annually to an individual or an organization who has displayed exceptional courage in combatting human rights violations. The award of 20,000 Swiss Francs is given to further the work of human rights activists. February 2001 December 1999 Every year since 1995 local people in Weimar have nominated an individual, group or organisation to receive a human rights prize in "remembrance of the historical responsibility of Weimar and as a symbol of the nameless victims of dictatorships and despotic rulers around the world." After the nomination process the presentation committee made up of representatives of Amnesty International, Terre des Hommes, UNHCR, and the Society for Endangered Peoples makes the final decision on who should receive the award for "commitment to human rights in spite of state or state-sanctioned violence or persecution."
