Closed Projects
Since 1981, PBI has worked in eleven countries worldwide. Several of these projects have been closed, because conflicts have reduced, or funding was cut, or for other reasons. Find out more about our closed projects here: Visit the archived websites
The material is here as a historical record, and we do not maintain contacts in these regions. These websites are no longer maintained.

North America Project
The North America Project began as a response to violent confrontations between Native American people and mainstream society. In summer 1990, a police officer was killed and a tense stand-off ensued when Mohawks in Quebec blockaded the building of a golf course on what they claimed as a sacred burial site. Several groups contributed to a peaceful solution by sending observers.
PBI members recognized the need for an organization to coordinate and train such nonviolent efforts. The Project was officially opened in April 1992.
The North America Project worked with: - the Innu of Sept-Iles, Quebec (1993)
- Innu Nation demanded withdrawal of justice officials, Sheshatshit, Davis Inlet (1994)
- Chippewas fishery dispute, Ontario (1994)
- grazing rights dispute, Western Shoshone (1994-5)
- Dineh/ Hopi Conflict at Big Mountain, Arizona (1997)
Reports are available from 1995 to 1997. The project was closed in December 1999.
