Closed Projects

Since 1981, PBI has worked in eleven countries worldwide. Several of these projects have been closed, because conflicts have reduced, or funding was cut, or for other reasons. Find out more about our closed projects here:

The material is here as a historical record, and we do not maintain contacts in these regions. These websites are no longer maintained.

Balkan Peace Team

From 1994 to 2001 the Balkan Peace Team worked for the peaceful resolution of conflict by involving international volunteers in work with local peace and human rights groups in Croatia, Serbia and Kosovo.

BPT was a cooperative effort of several international grassroots peace organizations working at the request of local peace workers.

The team accompanied peace and human rights activists, was present at apartment evictions and court trials, made official contacts, visited refugee camps, and networked with local people.

The Project closed in March 2001, because an evaluation of resources and organization concluded that a good standard of work was no longer possible.

What they say

"I feel lucky because many activists now feel too scared to work, but as a lawyer for LBH, I can work because I feel protected by PBI’s presence."
