Closed Projects

Since 1981, PBI has worked in nine countries worldwide. Several of these projects have been closed, because conflicts have reduced, or funding was cut. Find out more about our closed projects here:

The material is here as a historical record, and we do not maintain contacts in these regions. These websites are no longer maintained.

Haiti Project

Beginning in 1995, the team facilitated nonviolent conflict resolution workshops with peasant communities, local branches of the Justice and Peace Commission, human rights activists, and Justices of the Peace.

They collaborated with Haitians to form a network of activists to facilitate their own workshops in nonviolence and conflict resolution.

The team participated in several protective accompaniments that reassured Haitians confronting judicial injustice and impunity. In the tense Artibonite Valley, we accompanied a mediation process resolving land disputes between peasants.

The project was closed in July 2000 as Haitian groups were now organized and knowledgeable enough to carry on the work.
