As well as the Innu of north-eastern Canada, NAP has been involved with the Western Shoshone of the
southwestern United States. In October 1994, NAP sent a four-person international team to northern
Nevada, to explore a conflict over livestock grazing, land use, water and related issues.
The NAP team sought background information and the views of all parties to the conflict, as well as exploring the potential for PBI work in further conflicts. Team members interviewed various people representing the different points of view in the conflict, including the Dann Sisters (who are at the centre of the conflict), the Bureau of Land Management, the Western Shoshone National Council, and non-Native ranchers in the area. The conflict has become a test case for the rights of the Western Shoshone Nation in their quest to regain control over their land.
