PBI carry out a conflict transformation workshop.

Our field teams are based in Jayapura and Wamena in Papua, Banda Aceh in Aceh and Jakarta.

Papua

The Indonesia Project (IP) continues to solidify its presence in this province. As well as providing its Participatory Peace Education programme, the project also currently provides protective services to:

  • KontraS Papua (Komisi untuk Orang Hilang dan Korban Tindak Kekerasan, Commission for Disappearances and Victims of Violence).
  • PBHI (Perhimpunan Bantuan dan Hak Asasi Manusia Indonesia, Indonesian Legal Aid and Human Rights Association).
  • LP3BH: (Yayasan Lembaga Penelitian, Pengkajian dan Pengembangan Bantuan Hukum, The Institute for Analyzing, Investigation and Development of Legal Aid).
  • SKP: (Sekretariat Keadilan dan Perdamaian Keuskupan Jayapura, Office for Justice and Peace of the Catholic Diocese in Jayapura).

Aceh

Because of the generally stable security situation throughout Aceh, PBI no  longer provides protective accompaniment services in the region. The focus of PBI's work in Aceh is now on providing Participatory Peace Education and security workshops to a variety of organisations including:

  • The Children’s Media Center (CMC)
  • The Association of Medical Doctors of Asia (AMDA)
  • The Forum for the Empowerment of Women (FORPWAT) in Central Aceh

Jakarta

In Java the PBI provides protective services to:

  • WALHI (Friends of the Earth Indonesia)
  • PBHI (Perhimpunan Bantuan dan Hak Asasi Manusia Indonesia, Indonesian Legal Aid and Human Rights Association)
  • Suciwati Munir, widow of Munir Said Thalib, one of the country’s former leading human rights campaigners, who has been engaged in a relentless pursuit of justice since her husband’s murder on September 7, 2004
