Groups we Accompany

From women's groups in Colombia and Indonesia, indigenous communities in Mexico, Guatemala and Papua to lawyers in Nepal, we accompany a wide variety of threatened activists all over the world.

What they all have in common is struggling for their rights against heavy odds and receiving threats or violence for carrying out their work.

We salute their courage and are proud to stand with them.

Featured group

UVOC is a campesino organisation in the Verapaces (the departments of Alta and Baja Verapaz) and works on access to land for campesinos and provides support in legalising the communities titles to land.

Carlos Morales, leader of UVOC, has been a victim of death threats, acts of intimidation, and persecution by unknown individuals.

Due to a serious increase in death threats at the end of April 2005, he was forced into hiding in Guatemala City for a month. Following this, he requested 24 hour accompaniment from Peace Brigades. The offices and personnel of UVOC continue to be under surveillance from unknown persons.

PBI accompanies Carlos and other members of UVOC.
