PBI Makes a difference
Since October 2006, PBI-Nepal has been providing protective accompaniment to members of Advocacy Forum. Advocacy Forum is a leading non-governmental organisation working to promote the rule of law and uphold international human rights standards in Nepal. Established in 2001 by human rights lawyers, Advocacy Forum addresses cases of human rights violations while providing free legal assistance to victims of torture and others in need. They raise awareness about human rights violations through domestic and international channels, while supporting legal reforms to make the justice system in Nepal more efficient and accessible. One of Advocacy Forum's founding members, Mandira Sharma, recently received Human Rights Watch's highest honor. In addition, PBI-Nepal has been exploring requests by different victims groups that have emerged in the past year, in particular in the Southern strip of Nepal, the Terai, where the incidence of disappeared during the conflict was very high.
